The Nature of Truth Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
The Nature of Truth - Essay Example Charles Darwin suggested the theory of evolution, by natural selection. He collected multiple pieces of evidence to support his idea so that he can make the idea realistic to the people. After looking at all the evidence, he came up with the conclusion that the theory of evolution was the beat explanation that he could come up to support the discoveries that he found during his research (Scott, 2008). The history of all living things is usually documented in the multiple lines of evidence, which form a convergence and tell the story of life as time passes. The first piece of evidence of evolution is found in fossil remains that have been discovered in time. These fossils serve as snapshots of history, and they are used to illustrate the evolutionally changes that have taken place over time. Fossil remains started being discovered as early as in the seventeenth century. Each new fossil that is discovered brings new clues as to the understanding of human history (Scott, 2008). Other evidence ids brought about by the study of embryology and the observation of similarity between species. Embryos of early vertebrates look similar. These species differs in their genetic structures due to the genetic changes that every organism undergoes so as to adapt to the environment, evolution was also brought about by natural selection where nature choose the beat species that are best adapted to the environment (Scott, 2008). The theory of evolution is supported by many pieces of evidence; Biogeography is the study of a number of species in an area over a given period. This study gives the idea that if the evolution theory is true, then species that are related should be found in the same geographical area this is in the exemption of the animals that have a high mobility rate like birds (Scott, 2008). There are other theories that are against the theory of evolution. These theories include the creation theory, the big bang

Current Issues Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words
Current Issues - Essay Example The need to enhance knowledge and skills has also been realized. These changes have been politically, socially, economically and technologically triggered. Decision-making processes concerning healthcare provision also continue to change due to the full action of legal measures and requirements. However much health and social care faces various challenges, the changing landscape has had positive implications (Parton, 2002). During the past few years, social change has transformed operations of the health and social care sector from an independent paradigm to an all inclusive approach. Changing social perceptions and belief systems have necessitated the inclusion and adoption of various reforms. Participation of different players in all spheres of health and social care development has been embraced to the extent of including a wide range of stakeholders. Most leaders around the world are now focused on one agenda which is to improve the implementation of health and social care programs. Different stakeholders from both the private and public sectors have taken an active role in ensuring the health and social care providers meet their expectations (Davis, Finlay & Bullman, 2005). Reforms in the National Health Service (NHS) are enough evidence of the changes that health and social care continue to experience. In the United Kingdom, major health reforms have been realized through the Care Act 2014. The act has presented care providers with necessary support and control that they require to deliver services. For the very first time, this Act was able to limit the cost of health care (Department of Health, 2014). The Act has also given caregivers the right to receive support for their services. Carers are also being granted the legal right in terms of receiving support. They receive this support after being assessed and deemed eligible. Initially, health and social caregivers did not enjoy such privileges. These are just but a few among

International Relations College Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1500 words
International Relations College - Essay Example Two such people are economist Amatya Sen and medical anthropologist Paul Farmer. Their experiences and observations regarding the state of the poor and deprived people today inspired the two authors to write and publish their works that they hope will enlighten the people of the world. Amatya Sen's composition is entitled 'Development as Freedom' while Farmer had 'Pathologies of Power: Health, Human Rights, and the New War on the Poor'. Both works reveal how deep the deterioration of society has reached. In the two compositions, we hear of true life stories that detail how many of our kind are suffering and how some had their life cut short unnecessarily. Sen calls for social development as a way to give the people the freedom to develop their selves and contribute to the development of society in general. He emphasizes the need to pursue enhanced literacy, accessible and affordable health care, the empowerment of women, and the free flow of information because these are the ingredients which will ultimately deliver us the kind of development we envision. In the course of his medical practice, Farmer came to know of the many tragedies afflicting other people. In his book, we come to know of the Haitian girl who gave herself to the whims of a soldier who she hoped would rescue her and her family from poverty. In the end, however, she only acquired AIDS from the soldier. Farmer relates how petty criminals die in Russian prison, how many people die of tuberculosis and how many people could have been saved if only social institutions were willing to give a little more. The aim of this paper is to compare and contrast the two works. I will be determining the similarities and differences in their ideas and their treatments of the subject. 2.0 Similarities The most striking similarity between Sen and Farmer is their exposition of the ills of society particularly that of the deprivation of basic necessities. So many people in the world today suffer from ignorance, disease and death because they were not afforded the opportunity to develop themselves. Some of them were even intentionally left in that state due to certain beliefs that actually contain hidden motives. Both authors wanted people to know the affliction that is surreptitiously killing many of our kind. Both authors criticize the existing system of society today due to its complacency towards addressing the plight of millions of people of the world. Sen, for example, attacks the belief system that human rights violation is inherent in Asian culture. According to him, such a system was fabricated to justify authoritarians and totalitarian regimes that hide under the guise of leaders and reformers. In any case, this should not serve as an excuse to deprive the people of the freedom to live their life to the fullest. The main problem in the system that characterize the government and other sectors of society today is that they have become engrossed with "identifying development with the growth of gross national product, or with the rise in personal incomes, or with industrialization, or with technological advance, or with social modernization" when they should have given more importance to "social and economic arrangements (for example, facilities for education and health

King of Comedy as an Example of Modern Parody Essay
King of Comedy as an Example of Modern Parody - Essay Example The use of parody is increasingly intertwined with that of satire, as the authors or film makers strive to mock or unmask the flaws and false realities of the life surrounding them. King of Comedy, a 1999 Hong Kong-produced comedy film, is just an example of such satirical parody. It is both a mockery of usual commercially successful but shallow kung-fu action movies and, to a less evident extent, the settings of Hong Kong the main hero has to deal with in his quest for success in the actorââ¬â¢s career. The viewer is subjected to a flurry of visual gags and usual comic tricks by Stephen Chow and other actors performing the roles of the filmââ¬â¢s characters. At the same time, though, the film presents a characteristic mockery of the unrealities of the usual action movies by twisting or outright ridiculing the character types or situations found in them. The final moments of King of Comedy are even more of a parody nature, as the direct connection between commercial films and a more common advertisement is fully displayed with the characters openly advertising Pringles chips to the audience. The plot of King of Comedy is rather simple. Wan Tin-Sau (played by Stephen Chow himself), a not so lucky second-rate actor, tries to eke out his living by simultaneously performing as a movie extra actor and serving as the head of his villageââ¬â¢s community center. He is approached by the local call girls who wish to increase their chance for wooing rich clients by acting like innocent school girls. Wan has to play a role of their teacher at such impersonating acts. However, one of these girls, Lau Piu-Piu, falls in love with their unfortunate teacher, as she becomes grateful to him for his efforts at teaching her play acts. However, Wan misunderstands her love for simple lust, and, after they make love for the first time, he tries to pay Lau for her alleged ââ¬Ëserviceââ¬â¢. The girl is enraged and leaves Wanââ¬â¢s house. A poor actor is distressed due to his lack of understanding of womenââ¬â¢s feelings. Later on, Wan is described in his more conventional environs, that is, at the film studio, where he tries to catch a new role in the possibly more paid-for position. He could not believe himself, when he is chosen for the highly sought role of the leading actor in the movie where the famous actress Sister Cuckoo is starred. Wan tries to impress her with his charm, which leads to him being involved in some fairly ridiculous situations. However, Wanââ¬â¢s happiness does not last long, as he is unexpectedly dismissed from the position he has just secured. He is then approached by one of the lunchmen at the studio, who, surprisingly enough, turns to be a Hong Kong police agent. Wan gets a proposal to be involved in an undercover operation, where he has to face the Triad mafia hoodlums, while his lunchman co-operative is severely wounded by them. Due to his sheer luck and the ability to distract his pursuers, Wan manages to win the day, impressing the surviving Triad operatives. Some of them would later even become his

Orangic Milk or Regular Milk Essay Example for Free
Orangic Milk or Regular Milk Essay Is organic milk really that better for you? That was what I was thinking when we were discussing that in health class. Coach Deyo gave good ideas, but I still had my doubts. Because people have been drinking regular milk a long time and no one has died from it or didnââ¬â¢t get enough nutrients from it. So, why do people say organic milk is better for you. I was looking at a website called Menââ¬â¢s Health. It gives a few ideas about organic milk and regular milk. One thing said on the website made me think, why waste the money on organic milk if it doesnââ¬â¢t give you the effects you desire. ââ¬Å"There are differences between organic and conventional milk production, but they may not have the effects consumers expect, says Thomas Overton, Ph. D. , associate professor of animal science at Cornell University. â⬠After I read this I was thinking maybe itââ¬â¢s all in the consumers mind that organic is better for them. Maybe thatââ¬â¢s what the organic milk farms want them to think. The website also states that you get the same stuff from organic milk in regular milk. ââ¬Å"For one thing, itââ¬â¢s not any healthier. ââ¬Å"An eight-ounce serving of regular milk offers the same nine essential nutrientsââ¬âincluding calcium, vitamin D, and potassiumââ¬âas a glass of organic milk,â⬠Mangieri says. â⬠So, people that say they drink organic milk because itââ¬â¢s healthier for you are not correct, itââ¬â¢s basically the same type of milk just the cows are feed differently. This is what I read that gave me that idea that the organic dairy cows are just fed differently than the regular milk cows. ââ¬Å"Are fed only organic grains, free of synthetic fertilizers and pesticides; get at least 30 percent of their feed from pasture; arenââ¬â¢t treated with antibiotics, or with bovine growth hormone to increase milk production. â⬠The website was talking about how organic dairy farms feed and treat their cows. In my opinion, thatââ¬â¢s a good thing that they are being fed organic grains and not treated with growth hormones. But, why does it matter if itââ¬â¢s going to be the same kind of nutrients. Also I read in the website that both types of dairy farms have to go through a test for antibiotic residue. ââ¬Å"Thereââ¬â¢s also no distinction in terms of unwanted ingredients. All organic and conventional milk is tested for antibiotic residue, and any milk that contains it is removed from the food supply. â⬠In conclusion I think itââ¬â¢s all up to the consumer. If the consumer wants healthier milk for him or her, you could decide between both milks. If the consumer wants milk from a cow thatââ¬â¢s fed and treated right then they should decide to get organic milk. But for me if I drank milk, I would decide to pick the one that gives you the nutrients you need and not break my wallet.
