Paper Till Death Do Us Part Marriage is becoming an increasingly bad idea for straight men in America. A statistic from a Time magazine article states that marriages have a 1 in 2 chance of lasting (Dickinson B20). Once a marriage contract is completed, a man faces the high possibility of losing the respect he once had as a single man, losing his rights to see any children that have been or will be created by the couple, losing his control of any personal space, losing half of everything he has, and enduring a lackluster sex life. Having witnessed and personally experienced some of these downfalls of marriage, it makes me sad to know that some men still participate in this archaic ritual without knowing the dangers they face. I imagine an earlier, more simple period in time when getting married was an essential part of manhood. Now days men should put their emotions and sexual urges aside, think logically, and consider the enormous risk they take when entering into a government enforce d legal contract with a woman. Many married men become emasculated once married and lose respect from their friends, family, coworkers, and others. A man that once enjoyed a happy, exciting single life can have his freedoms reduced gradually and significantly by a manipulative wife until one day he cannot explain how his life turned into the unrewarding hell of slavery to his wife that it has become.
